Next to Cratichneumon, the genus Barichneumon encompasses the greatest species diversity in the Southeastern United States. The great heterogeneity observed among the species complicates taxonomic differentiation. The genera Stenobarichneumon, Virgichneumon, and Vulgichneumon represent a diverging group of the Barichneumon genus. The Barichneumon wasps tend to be small, ranging in size around 6-10 mm. Our current knowledge of hosts is limited. (Heinrich, 1977).
