If the Executive Committee and Natural History Association agrees with this request, you will be able to spend the money as best you see fit, covering the expenses of scientists whom you wish to participate, hosting a get-together for those involved, etc. Jody should help you coordinate this all. Please do not feel compelled to spend all of whatever funds you may receive!!! Discover Life in America has a cash flow problem, and we are trying to stretch our money as far as possible. I propose that whatever funds that you do not commit, and whatever funds you might raise during the Nature Quest, you give to the Taxonomy Team coordinators for them to award as mini grants to support individual investigators in the Park this summer. As we did at the December meeting, please appeal to your colleagues' conscience and generosity not to accept our support unless they really need it. Although we had the authority to spend over $20,000 on the December meeting, we only spent about $10,000, and raised over $3,000 in cash donatings to boot. I also propose to ask the Executive Committee for immediate support for a sorting center ($35,000) and for our more active taxonomy teams ($20,000) that will be managed through our Science Committee. Thanks for your help and enthusiasm. No promises. Cheers, Pick _________________________________________________________ John Pickering Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602-2602 Office: 706-542-1115 Messages: 706-542-3379 Laboratory: 706-542-1388 FAX: 706-542-3344 e-mail: pick@pick.uga.edu Home: 706-353-7076 Web sites: <www.discoverlife.org> <http://dial.pick.uga.edu> _________________________________________________________
