General mission statement: Our purpose is to develop a foundation of knowledge
about all species in GRMNP to better conserve and manage our natural
heritage unimpaired today and for future generations
Web group mission statement brainstorm
Commitment to dissemination of knowledge through traditional media, an
evolving technology for the purpose of educating a broad communit
Knowledge to foster public understandin
Do we need standard web building format? One vote against Java
Need on web page: lesson on how to use sight (game for kids, or just for
kids with general information), interactive key, characteristics throughout
range, characteristics specific to smokies, distribution maps, links
to more technical, detailed information and other pages, status in park,
list of publications, references, bibliography
P. jordani Salamander web page as prototype.
Needs/ Concerns/ Ideas Brainstorm
Target users? Could have split options for taxonomists and laymen. Start
broad and link to more detail.
Copy right issues -Redrawing maps allows you to use. Pictures - allow for
picture credits. Watermark photos in PhotoShop so others cant copy.
Sensitive species -do you publish info on where they are located? Do you
provide information on how to collect and properly handle? Need for
high quality representation of park. Need element to instill
conservation ethic and keep sight of big picture. Keep information up to
date. View as dynamic, not static. Link to other subjects (ex. Salamander
to water quality page).
Determine limits of web pages.
Template for kids page. Outline of what to incorporate. Link studentsage
to main species page. Need to verify data (would TWIG leaders be willing
to delegate quality control for pages?) Each group will need 4 or 5
reviewers. Is it worth people's time?
