Location of Sites in North and Central America

Field Sites

We inventory and compare biodiversity across temperate and tropical sites using standardized methods. Our study focuses on old-growth and secondary forests in the areas of North and Central America that are shown on the adjacent map. Please click on the red dots to get information on particular sites or see below for a list of our trapping sites.

As of July, 1997, we are running 64 Malaise traps at the following sites:

Previous Trapping
In previous years we ran traps at the following additional sites: Future Trapping
Between September, 1997, and January, 1998, we plan to start trapping at two new sites within the Panama Canal Zone: Fort Sherman, a wet forest on the Atlantic side of the isthumus, and Cocoli, a dry forest on the Pacific side. Within the next several years we also hope to intensify trapping in Costa Rica and to add field sites in Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico.
