National Moth Week

20-28 July, 2013

We invite you to join us collecting photographic and other data on moths. This survey will help us understand how moths respond to climate, pollution, land use and other factors. It is a stepping-stone towards building a permanent network of study sites to monitor target groups of organisms around the world.

Overview

Discover Life is providing photographic albums to participants in National Moth Week so that we can easily share observations and compare findings across sites. We invite everyone to help scientists survey moths around the world. Participants can use digital cameras and follow a simple research protocol to collect high-quality data. We will integrate our collective results with other data and then compare the diversity and seasonality of species across sites. Our goals are to enjoy moths, better understand and manage ecological communities, and teach science and environmental awareness in the process.

Next steps

  1. Register your site on National Moth Week
  2. Get an album from Discover Life
  3. Follow simple research protocol
