SYNERGISTIC ACTIVITIES:

  1. The PI and six undergraduate biology majors partook in a insect collecting expedition that involved southwestern USA, Mexico. Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The students were taught the intricacies of insect/plant interactions, collecting techniques, and the mechanics of preparing a museum insect collect ion.

  2. The PI uses his field experiences in the tropics to enhance his discussions of species-level biology in his offerings of General Entomology, Invertebrat e Zoology, and General Entomology.

  3. The PI frequently communicates with graduate students in several national and international universities in subject matter relevant to the graduate st udent\342\200\231s research program in the Cleridae. The names of these graduate students are listed in the project summary.

  4. The PI is currently involved as a collaborator of an NSF grant, awarded to Dr. Amy Berkov, \342\200\234Panama Canal Amplification: Making the best of a clear-cut situation\342\200\235. The PI will conduct three weeks of fieldwork among tree piles resulting from deforestation activities along the Panama Cana l.
