Ivory marks: broad almost bell-shaped on clypeus, extending almost full length and abruptly expanded near apex of clypeus; spots at apex of profemur, stripe extending to length of protibia, spots at bases other tibiae, being largest on metatibia; pronotal lobes. Antennae fuscous, lighter beneath; legs proximally light fuscous, femora and tibiae faintly metallic, tarsi apically testaceous; wing membrane hyaline, venation testaceous, tegula light testaceous. Holotype compared with illustrations of other conspeeific specimens: metafemur and metatrochanter (fig. 9c), sternum 6 and apical plate (fig. 131); genitalia not dissected from holotype, but illustrated from another specimen (fig. 28i).

Type specimens—Holotype male, Southmost, Cameron County, Texas, 111-27-1951, C. D. Michener; allotype female, same place and date as holotype, L. B. Beamer. Paratypes, same place and date as holotype, 25 females and 19 males on Agastache breviflora, Monarda citriodora, and Rubus sp., L. B. and R. H. Reamer, and C. B. Michener. Holotype and allotype deposited at the University of Kansas. Paratypes at the California Academy of Sciences, American Museum of Natural History, and U. S. National Museum.

The males of Ceratina texana are distinguished from C. strenu4 by the bare, sharply toothed metafemur and sixth sternum with a single median tooth which is divided only at the apex. C. strenua from Kerr-vile and Fedor, Texas, exhibit the typical pubescent metafemur with the slight convexity beyond the apex of the tooth and two median teeth on the sixth sternum. The legs of smaller specimens of C. strenua from Texas may be nonmetallic and often paler than C. texana. The females of C. texana are differentiated from C. strenua by the broader, more bell- shaped clypeal mark and paler, almost nonmetallic legs. The distribution is illustrated in fig. 26.
