Overview
Sporocarps densely caespitose, jet black when the spores are present, purple-brown after spore dispersal, cylindrical, but tapered slightly at the apex,1.5-3.0 mm total height, 0.5-1.0 mm wide. Stalk short, up to 1.0 mm long, black. Peridium fugacious. Hypothallus continuous, dark brown to black, ± orange outwards. Columella black, cylindrical, but tapered slightly and becoming irregular at the apex, ending just below the apex of the sporotheca, capillitium arising evenly along its entire length. Capillitium rigid, composed of branched and anastomosed threads forming a dense reticulum with numerous free ends. Spore-mass black. Spores purple-brown, 11-12 µm diam., minutely and densely spinulose, lighter on one side. Plasmodium unknown. Nivicole.
