Overview
Sporocarps gregarious, usually stalked, 0.3-1.5 mm total height. Sporotheca 0.2-0.8 mm diam.,, goblet-shaped, ochraceous brown or olivaceous to deep chocolate, umber, or bright brownish red, usually darker below. Peridium thick, double, the outer layer cartilaginous or rarely limy, the inner layer limy and white, varying to membranous and translucent. Dehiscence by a distinct operculum which is sharply separated, often by a prominent ring, usually depressed at the margin, sometimes throughout, sometimes convex and protruding, paler than the peridium, varying from white to ochraceous, brown, or red. Stalk usually slightly paler than the base of the cup, orange-red, translucent, furrowed, up to half the total height, sometimes lacking. Hypothallus distinct, discoid; capillitium physaroid, the nodes large, irregular, white or ochraceous, tending to become aggregated at the centre. Spore-mass black. Spores violaceous brown, verruculose, 8-10 µm diam. Plasmodium white, bright yellow, or orange.
