Halictus hyalinus Crawford, 1907: 194. ♀. Holotype. ♀ USA, Nevada, Ormsby Co., (Baker); [NMNH: 12080]. Examined.

Taxonomy. Michener, 1951: Lasioglossum (Chloralictus) hyalinum, p. 1114 (catalogue); Krombein, 1958: Lasioglossum (Dialictus) hyalinum, p. 230 (catalogue); Hurd, 1979: Dialictus hyalinus, p. 1966 (catalogue); Moure & Hurd, 1987: Dialictus hyalinus, p. 104 (catalogue).

Diagnosis. See diagnosis for L. albohirtum.

Redescription. FEMALE. Length 4.27–5.73 mm; head length 1.22–1.51 mm; head width 1.30–1.58 mm; forewing length 3.36–4.03 mm.

Colouration. Head and mesosoma blue-green to golden green. Mandible orange. Clypeus with apical half blackish brown and basal half, and supraclypeal area with brassy reflections. Antenna dark brown, F2–F10 with ventral surface orange-yellow. Mesepisternum blue. Tegula pale translucent yellowish amber. Wing membrane hyaline, venation and pterostigma pale brownish yellow. Legs brown, tibial bases and apices and tarsi yellow to orange-yellow, pro- and metabasitarsus suffused with brown. Propodeum with dorsal surface blue. Metasoma dark brown, terga and sterna with apical margins pale amber to translucent yellow.

Pubescence. White. Extremely abundant. Head and mesosoma with dense woolly hairs (1–1.5 OD), longest on genal beard, metanotum and mesopleuron (2–2.5 OD). Face below eye emargination with moderately sparse tomentum, not obscuring surface. Lower paraocular area with dense tomentum obscuring surface. Gena with dense tomentum. Metanotum anterior margin and metepisternum obscured by tomentum. Propodeum with dense plumose hairs on lateral and posterior surfaces (2–2.5 OD). Metasomal terga with moderately dense, fine setae. T1 acarinarial fan wide and complete. T1 dorsolateral portion with large patch of tomentum. T2 basolateral and lateral portions with moderately dense tomentum. T3–T5 with dense tomentum. Surface sculpture. Head and mesosoma polished. Facial punctation coarse, contiguous. Clypeus polished, punctation moderately dense (i=1–1.5d), apical half nearly impunctate. Supraclypeal area with punctation moderately sparse (i=1–1.5d). Lower paraocular and antennocular areas with punctation dense (i≤d). Upper paraocular area and frons punctate-reticulate. Ocellocular area punctate (i≤d). Gena and postgena polished. Mesoscutum anteromedial portion weakly imbricate, punctation fine, deep, and close (i=d), more widely spaced mesad of parapsidal lines (i=1–2d), subreticulate on anterolateral portions. Mesoscutellum similar to mesoscutum, submedial punctures moderately sparse (i=1–3d). Axilla punctate. Metanotum imbricate-punctate. Preλpisternum reticulate-punctate. Hypoepimeral area reticulate-punctate. Mesepisternum punctate (i≤d), subreticulate above, more widely spaced on ventrally reflexed portion (i=d). Metepisternum with dorsal third rugoso-striate, ventral portion imbricate. Metapostnotum with anastomosing rugae not reaching apical margin, often weak submedially, posterior margin polished. Propodeal dorsolateral slope weakly imbricate, distinctly punctate, lateral surface tessellate, posterior surface weakly imbricate. Metasomal terga coriarious, very finely punctate, dense on basal portion of discs (i=1–1.5d), more widely spaced on apical impressed areas (i=1–2.5d).

Structure. Head wide (length/width ratio = 0.94–0.95). Eyes convergent below (UOD/LOD ratio = 1.08– 1.10). Clypeus protruding 2/3 below suborbital line, apicolateral margins convergent. Antennal sockets close (IAD/OAD < 0.5). Frontal line carinate, ending >2 OD below median ocellus. Gena narrower than eye. Inner metatibial spur pectinate with 3 teeth. Metapostnotum moderately elongate (MMR ratio = 1.12–1.20), posterior margin rounded onto posterior surface. Propodeum with oblique carina absent, lateral carina weak, reaching half way to dorsal margin.

MALE. Similar to female except for the usual secondary sexual characters and as follows. Length 4.39– 5.37 mm; head length 1.32–1.48 mm; head width 1.30–1.48 mm; forewing length 3.29–3.84 mm.

Colouration. Mandible yellow, apex red, base blackish brown. Flagellum with ventral surface bright yellow. Tibial bases and apices, and tarsi yellow.

Pubescence. Face below eye emargination with dense tomentum obscuring surface, less abundant on lower clypeus. T1 dorsolateral, T2 basolateral, T3 basal and lateral portions and T4–T5 with sparse tomentum. S2–S3 and S4 lateral portions with moderately dense erect hairs (1.5–2 OD).

Surface sculpture. Mesoscutal punctation sparse between parapsidal lines (i=1–3d). Metanotum punctate (i=1–1.5d). Mesoscutellum with submedial portion polished. Propodeum with dorsolateral slope and posterior surface strongly punctate (i≤d), lateral surface ruguloso-reticulate. Metasomal terga apical impressed areas virtually impunctate.

Structure. Head moderately elongate (length/width ratio = 1.00–1.07). Eyes convergent below (UOD/ LOD ratio = 1.30–1.42). Labrum emarginate. Antennal sockets close (IAD/OAD > 1.1). Frontal line carinate, ending 2 OD below median ocellus. Pedicel subequal to F1. F2 length 1.9–2.0X F1. F2–F10 moderately elongate (length/width ratio = 1.42–1.90). Metapostnotum elongate (MMR ratio = 0.92–1.27), posterior margin rounded onto posterior surface.

Terminalia. S7 with median lobe weakly clavate, apex rounded (Fig. 119G). S8 with apicomedial margin weakly convex (Fig. 119G). Genitalia as in Fig. 119D–F. Gonobase with ventral arms narrowly separated. Gonostylus small, dorsal setae elongate. Retrorse lobes narrow, strongly attenuated apically. Penis valve slender.
