ECHINORHINUS

PRICKLY SHARKS

Body robust and cylindrical; head depressed; 5 gill slits, the last longest, none over pectoral; small spiracle behind eye; two small, equal sized dorsal fins, close together near tail; no anal fin; pelvic fins large, near tail; tail asymmetrical, with poorly developed lower lobe; body densely covered with angular denticles.

A circumglobal, subtropical to temperate genus of 2 species. One species occurs on both sides of the Pacific and enters the northern and southern fringes of our region.
