Overview
Primarily sporocarpous, densely to loosely clustered. Sporocarps sessile on a constricted base or weakly stalked, ± globose or occasionally elongate, 1-1.5 mm diam. Stalk, when present, as an extension of hypothallus. Peridium double, the outer layer membranous, closely covered with calcareous scales and internally with a layer of loosely compacted lime, the the inner layer fawn, membranous, hyaline and iridescent. Stalk, when present, translucent, as an extension of the hypothallus. Hypothallus keratinous and opaque or membranous and transparent, continuous. Columella absent, but a calcareous, buff or pale cinnamon-brown pseudocolumella often present. Capillitium scanty, attached to the inner peridium, threads flexuose, dark purple-brown, hyaline at the tips, sparsely branched and anastomosed, main threads 2-3 µm diam. with few lateral connections, bearing dark, vesicular expansions, the tips slightly tapered. Spore-mass dark purple-brown. Spores purple-brown, prominently and densely spinulose, occasionally tending to be discharged from the sporotheca in a mass, 11-13 µm diam. Nivicole.
