MALACANTHUS
TILEFISHES
Body very elongate, slightly compressed; head profile rounded; no ridge along midline of head before dorsal fin; preopercle smooth; large, sharp spine at angle of operculum; dorsal fin I-IV, 43-60; anal fin I, 37-53.
A circumtropical genus, except for eastern Atlantic, with 3 species; 1 Indo-Pacific species occurs in the tropical eastern Pacific.
