This is a rather small species with considerable blackish hair on the mesonotum; it is similar to fuscotincta but differs by the characters given in the key.

Male.—Black; apical margin of tergites 1 to 5 tinged with brown. Small joints of tarsi only slightly reddened, tarsal claw dark ferruginous. Tibial spurs testaceous. Labrum and clypeal mark bright yellow, dorsal and lateral margins of clypeus rather broadly black, and the yellow widely separated from margins of eyes. Tegulae dark amber, more infuscated toward base. Wings dusky hyaline, nervures piceous, subcosta black. Pubescence whitish, moderately long, erect, and rather dense on cheeks and underparts of thorax. Hair of mesoscutum and scutellum fuscous or blackish, but more or less light around the margins, and thin enough to reveal the sculpture. Numerous dark hairs on tegulae and sometimes a few on occipital margin of vertex. Hair of tergite 1 very long, erect, whitish but becoming short and black on apical border. Hair of tergites 2 to 5 mostly rather short, with numerous long, erect hairs interspersed; that of tergite 2 white on disk and black on apical depression, and that of following segment mainly black, with band of thin, short, white hair across middle of disk, broadest and most evident on tergite 3. Hair of tergites 6 and 7 black, tinged with red on apical border of tergite 6 and on sides of tergite 7. Hair of venter long and whitish on each side and shorter and brownish across middle of segments. Hair of legs white, ferruginous on inner side of tarsi.

Head much broader than long; inner orbits of eyes distinctly diverging above. Vertex slightly impressed on each side; lateral ocelli slightly more than their distance apart from nearest eye. Antennae slender, slightly compressed, reaching apex of tergite 2; joint 3 longer than wide and about one-third as long as joint 4. Second submarginal cell receiving recurrent nervure about one-fourth of its length from apex. Clypeus moderately shining, with close, shallow punctures. Mesonotum moderately shining, closely and strongly punctured, posterior middle of scutum more shining and with well-separated punctures; punctures of scutellum mostly less than a puncture-width apart. Abdomen minutely and closely punctured, except apical margin of tergites 1 to 5 narrowly smooth and impunctate. Sternite 6 with a broad, smooth, oblique impression on each side of base, bounded within by acutely elbowed, low ridge; disk with very short, erect hair across base, submarginal hair on each side thin and inconspicuous; middle of disk with longi¬tudinal impression, smooth and shining on its apical half. Sternites 7 and 8 as figured. Parameral lobes of genital armature rather short, gently bowed, broad at base, and only slightly broadened at apex, the outer face with erect hair nearly to the apex. Length 9.5-12.5 mm, anterior wing 7-7.8 mm.

Female.—Black; colored much as the male, but small joints of tarsi more ferruginous. Pubes¬cence similar but shorter, and hair on anterior third of mesoscutum, on its lateral margins, and on tegulae usually more or less light. Hair of tergite 1 moderately long, erect, and whitish. Tergites 2 to 4 each with moderately wide band of appressed white hair. Band on tergite 2 thin across middle and receding from margin, where followed by a few appressed black hairs; disk with short, more erect, white hair exposing sculpture, and at base a very narrow band of black hair not reaching lateral margin. Disks of tergites 3 and 4 with black pubescence, with apical white band on tergite 3 thinly covering slightly more than apical depression across middle of segments. Hair of tergite 5 black, with apical band brown across middle and white on outer thirds. Hair on each side of pygidial plate brown, becoming black at apex. Hair of legs light, scopal hair pale ochreous, hair on inner side of basitarsi ferruginous, and dense hair at apex of hind femora, on outer side of middle tibiae, and on front tarsi brown.

Head much broader than long, inner orbits of eyes parallel. Vertex slightly impressed on each side; lateral ocelli slightly more than their distance apart from nearest eye. Proboscis rather short; galeae mostly polished and nearly hairless. Pygidial plate moderately wide and rounded at apex. Clypeus closely, subrugosely punctured, sometimes with slight smooth ridges between punctures on anterior part of disk in median line. Anterior third of mesoscutum dull and densely punctured, disk otherwise more shining and punctures more separated toward middle of disk. Scutellum more finely and densely punctured. Apical depression of tergite 1 broadly bare and punctured across middle, and less than apical half of depression punctureless across middle on tergite 2. Length about 10.5-12 mm, anterior wing 6.8-7.4 mm, width of abdomen 4.2-4.7 mm.
