Legal structure
The Polistes Foundation, a 501-c-3 non-profit organization
established in 2002 to support Discover Life, is the center's legal umbrella and fiduciary.
This foundation was awarded permanent standing by the I.R.S. in 2007. It charges only 5%
indirect costs on all funds that it handles, spending 95% on the research and education activities
of Discover Life, its center, and partners.
