Overview
Main identification features Head and body compressed; mouth small, at front, not extendible, top lip folded down; eye small (<2 snout length); first dorsal VII spines, entire fin before anal fin; second dorsal I,10; anal fin I,5; pectoral short, barely reaching pelvic origin; teeth conical, in 2-3 rows; 30 or more lower rakers on 1st gill arch; 10-12 scales between 2 dorsal fins; scales large, 17 lateral rows.

Greenish blue back, stripe on flank grey, operculum bright yellow.

Size: 48.6 cm.

Habitat: coastal pelagic.

Depth: surface. 0-29 m.

Temperate NE Pacific; Oregon to southern Baja, also the western Gulf of California.
