Overview

This list represents all of the Opiliones thus far recorded from the states of Tennessee and North Carolina (Cokendolpher & Lee, 1993; Kury, 1998). Some of the species probably do not occur in the GSMNP; whereas others not yet recorded will be collected in future studies. The study of the Opiliones of the GSMNP is just beginning and this is simply a starting point. Species for which specimens have been identified from the Park are marked "GSMNP".

Species Observations

James Cokendolpher Cokendolpher@aol.com is interested in your observations of Opiliones in the park. Little is known about the biology of members of this order. Notes on feeding, being fed upon, mating, and any other behavior would be interesting. If you can obtain a close-up photograph or legally collected specimen the observation will be more useful. Additionally, data to record should include:

Caution, collection of flora or fauna within a National Park requires a permit which is usually granted only for research or educational purposes.
