Papua New Guinea has extraordinary biodiversity which is globally significant. The sustainable development of its natural resources and primary industries is fundamental to the future of its people and the conservation of its environments.

This project builds biodiversity capacity of its public service and strengthens the research and outreach functions of its agencies. The training focuses on insects which comprise about 60% of PNG species. Insects are critical to the sustainability of PNG's food crops, with many pest and beneficial insects. The training will enable PNG to determine threats and opportunities in agriculture, forestry, quarantine, and conservation, and better develop management practices.

This project is led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and PNG's National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI). This website describes the project, gives training materials, including insect identification keys, and information about the implementation partners. The project is funded by Australian Aid.
