The University of New South Wales

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is the lead agency of the current project. UNSW is one of Australia's leading teaching and research universities. It is one of the G08 universities in Australia and was ranked 46th in the QS World University Rankings. It was established in 1949 with a focus on scientific, technological and professional disciplines. The University today offers courses and conducts research in all major disciplines. It has a cosmopolitan environment with over 50 000 students from nearly 130 countries enrolled. The School of Biological Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) is involved in teaching and research in all aspects of life on earth. Disciplines and major research areas in the school cover environmental management, evolutionary ecology, terrestrial and marine ecology and conservation, natural resources, paleosciences and spatial information systems.

Professor Gerry Cassis and his team belong to the Evolutionary and Ecological Research Centre (E&ERC), within the school of BEES, and focus on insect systematics, evolution and host relationships. Prof. Cassis' was the project leader of the current project and the NARI placement was carried out in his laboratory.
